Our Week in Kinderland!

 Hiya there peeps

Shuna here

Oh, my word! We have 8 days left and I don't know if I am going to make it

Seriously

Between the stress of getting together the kinder program

Living out of boxes

and the overall stress of this year

I am banging my head up against a wall

I can make it.....

I hope

Anyhoo

We have been having some fun in Kinderland these past few weeks

Check out some of the awesome that went on in room 11

We finished up our Worm Unit

Here are some crafts that my teaching partner came up with

Aren't they cutie pooties

We have been hard at work reviewing and making sure that we are ready for first grade

I use these sheets for morning work and they kiddos love them!

Easy Peasy

In math we have been reviewing Place Value

The kiddos make Little Dinos for our Place Value on Fire display

Aren't they cute?!

The kiddos picked a number and demonstrated that number using cut up post it notes!

They turned out so cute

I got the Dinos here from Tracey

What's New and a Sale

Hiya there Peeps

Shuna here

It is Teacher's Appreciation Week

Does your school do anything special?

At my school the kiddos do something special for the teachers everyday

Today was bring your teachers flowers day

I had a kiddo bring me in some flowers this morning

He smiled bright and said, "Ms. Patterson these are for you!"

I thanked him and went to lay them on my desk when he summoned me back

"Hey, Ms. Patterson," he said

you know what

What, hunny

They are FAKE

Umm okay

Thanks

Was my reply

They are fake so you can keep them forever!

Aww kinders aren't they sweet

S.O.M.E.T.I.M.E.S

There is a sale going on

I don't know about you but I have a slight problem when it comes to shopping

When someone says sale I come running

What's Sprouting? Summer I Hope

Hiya there Peeps

Long time no chirp, huh?!

This time of year is crazy busy

We are in full practice mode for our end of the year kinder program which is super duper stressful

Teaching 80 kiddos 4 different songs, movements, skits, and poems is not really a good idea

The end will be cute

The process not....so....much....

On top of that I am relocating to a different state 1 day after school's end

Who signs up for that?!

Me....apparently!

But I am excited to make the move

Anyhoo

Here are a few of our kinder happenings over the last couple of weeks

We planted our marigold seeds and they just started sprouting

We also have been reviewing in our centers

Race to 100 station

The kiddos rolled the numbered dice and move that amount of spaces on the chart

Great for counting and cardinality

Place Value Station

The kiddos used the base ten blocks to build each number and recorded their answer

Write the Room Station from Marsha
Click here if you want to check these out
This was one of the kiddos favorite stations!

We are deep into spring but we never did get around to doing these stations from Heather so I finally bought them out for the kiddos to use to practice their addition skills.
The kiddos didn't mind the snowy penguins

Another place value station
Pick it up here

We also did some summer writing and a cute craftivity from Amy

They turned out so cute, right?!

You can pick these up here for the free

Lastly, we finished up our study of plants

Peace Out Peeps
Kick up your feet and relax
Summer is almost here
I can taste it
Enjoy the rest of your week

Be sure to check back tomorrow for a chance to win one of these

Be Free Mr Worm! { Freebie Update}

Hiya there Peeps

Shuna here

If you have been reading you know that we had tons of wormy fun last week but we never did get around to freeing the worms...until today!

We are already deep into our plant unit so we figured it was time to say goodbye to our slimy friends!

The worms didn't want to be set free

It took us a while to find them

Bye little worm

It has been fun!

Anyhoo

Today I had a light bulb moment

You know when you see an idea and it is so simple that you think, "Hey why didn't I think of that!"

Well I had one of those moments today. I have somewhat of a small room with limited space so I am always on a mission to fight the clutter

Especially during center time

With all of the center material, anchor charts I can statements and teacher models

the paper can take over quick! So here is a simple idea to reduce all the paper and it involves a 3 ring binder.

I use tubs and bins for my math and literacy stations but when I do science stations I am really struggling with where to put the materials for science centers. So the idea that my teaching partner had was to use binders with the clear covering.

Viola!
Inside the front cover are the teacher models so the students know what to do in each station

BTW

She did the whole sheet as a model

I won't do that

I would do a few so that the kiddos get the gist and actually work by themselves instead of just copying

Inside the binders I would put the recording sheets and a pencil pouch that could hold the scissors, glue sticks, pencils and markers that they would need.

The seed planting station

Isn't that a cool idea?

Well at least I thought so!

So much easier for me to get my science stations going

and this could translate to other centers as well

The sky is the limit

--Chirp--

Remember my book order post from here

I have a ton of book order forms left over each month and the teacher in me knew that it was such a waste just to throw all those books in the trash

So I came up with an idea that would put those book order forms to use

It was a genius idea if I do say so myself

and this little diddy was birthed!

At the time I thought this was the cutest thing ever

Seriously

Now that I look at it I cringe

Every freaking time

It was driving me nuts

Nuts I tell ya

So today someone downloaded it and left some positive feedback and that was the last straw!

The ugliness has got to go

So long story short

I updated the file

Much better

Okay that is all for now

Peace Out Peeps

Worms Have Invaded Our Room

Hiya there peeps

Shuna here

We just finished up our study of worms and boy was it fun!

I did this theme last year for the first time and the kiddos went nuts

so I knew I had to do it again this year! Click here to check out my kiddos last year

I started the day by showing the kiddos a box and they had to predict what we were going to study this week

Since we just finished our oviparous unit I got things like ladybugs, eggs, and caterpillars!

We talked about some things that can't be in the box and some things that could

The kiddos then went back to their seat and filled in their prediction sheet

My plan was  that after I showed them what was in the box we were going to have a little snack

I know everyone has seen the jello worms and I thought they were a super cool idea

So I went out and bought all the stuff I needed to make the worms/dirt pudding

For some reason I was under the impression that when making jello worms it would be just like making jello!

I didn't read the directions

well because

I don't need know stinkin' directions to make jello

So what happen was an

Turns out I did need to actually read them because obviously I had no clue what I was doing!

This turned into a big watery mess!

Do not add cold water

I repeat do not all cold water

Read the directions

Moving on

I let the kiddos explore the worms for a minute then we did some animal experiments

We wanted to see if worms liked damp areas or dry areas so we did a little experiment and recorded our results!

The worms were a big hit with all but one little sweetie

She was not having the worms at all!

So I really wanted to try those darn worms again

I made sure to read the directions this time!

Who would have thunk it

Reading solved the problem that was the watery, disastrous worms!

I'd say they were a big hit!

Click here to see the directions I used

We then build our very own worm hotel!

When we came back the next day

One of my partner teachers sent me this

After I stopped laughing I went to check on mine

They were still kicking

So we figured out the massive deaths were contributed to the sand being too dry!

If you create a hotel for worms use the sand sparsely and make sure to spritz each layer

Some of the worms were resuscitated and made it to the end of the week

No need to send P.E.T.A. looking for us

Here are a few extra pics from our week

The kiddos observed what happened in the worm hotel over the course of the week

On Friday we wrapped up our week

With some dirt pudding

Whew that was such a fun week

If you would like to study worms with your class

You can check out my Wormy Worms pack

We also watched two vids on worms

This Dragonfly TV Video

and this one from youtube

Peace Out Peeps

Have a blessed week
